The Ghost Town on the 77
Vicksburg has a story most places can't match. A century ago it was a busy turpentine camp named for the Vickers family who settled it, its workers tapping the pines for resin the way the whole Panhandle did back then. When the timber crews came through and cut the pines for lumber, the resin ran out and so did the reason to stay — by around 1930 the town was empty, and it's stayed that way.
