Where Laura Ingalls Wilder Spent a Florida Year

Here's a piece of Westville history most people don't know: Laura Ingalls Wilder — yes, of the Little House books — homesteaded in the greater Westville area for about a year, from October 1891 to August 1892, out in the rural Poplar Head community to the north. She, Almanzo, and young Rose came for the warmer climate and to be near family. The Panhandle humidity didn't suit them and they moved on to Missouri, but a historical marker on County Road 163 still marks where they lived.

Jump Street Inflatables delivers bounce houses, water slides, combo bouncers, games, and concession machines to Westville and across western Holmes County, with setup and takedown included and the price listed on every unit.

A River Town on US-90

Westville sits on Highway 90 on the west bank of the Choctawhatchee River, near the Alabama line — a timber-and-river community from the days of sawmills, turpentine, and log rafts floated downstream. The river is still the best thing about the place, and it shapes where the parties happen: yards, church grounds, and the odd gathering down at a river landing.

Local & Family-Owned

A Panhandle Company, Not a Franchise

Jump Street Inflatables is family-owned and runs the US-90 corridor between Bonifay and DeFuniak Springs every weekend — Westville is right on it. A town of 261 gets the same clean, inspected, fully insured inflatables and the same included setup as anywhere else we deliver.

Westville Party Rentals for Every Kind of Event

Yards, church grounds, and family land along the river.

Birthday Parties

Backyard birthdays along US-90, Cedar and Cypress Streets, and out on the county roads toward the river. Places here have room, so you can go a size bigger than you'd expect.

Church & Youth Events

Vacation Bible School weeks, homecomings, and fall festivals. Westville Assembly of God on Cypress Street and the Baptist churches around town anchor the community, and West Pittman Baptist runs a real children's ministry.

Fall Festivals

The community fall festival each October — run by West Pittman Baptist and the Sheriff's Office — already brings out inflatables, hayrides, and cake walks. A good weekend to have something bouncing.

Family Reunions

Reunions on family property, and plenty of Westville families draw relatives from across the Alabama line just north. A bouncer keeps the kids busy while everyone else visits.

School-Break Parties

Westville kids attend the Holmes County schools — Ponce de Leon is the closest — so our busy stretches follow that calendar: end-of-year, fall break, and summer.

River-Day Gatherings

The Choctawhatchee runs right past town. Old Warehouse Landing north of town even has a grill and a picnic table — and a bouncer back at the house rounds out a day on the water.

Where Can I Set Up a Bounce House in Westville?

In a Westville Yard — the Honest Answer

Being straight with you: Westville has no town-owned park, playground, or community center. There's no municipal venue to book. What the town does have is space — rural lots with real room, no homeowners' association, and no permit needed on your own property. We need flat grass or concrete matching the unit's listed footprint, the listed overhead clearance, and a standard outlet within 100 feet. On a slab we anchor with sandbags rather than stakes. If you're down a long river-road driveway, mention it and we'll plan the approach.

At a Church

Church grounds are the most common non-backyard setup in Westville. The congregations here run VBS weeks, homecomings, and the October fall festival, and every booking is fully insured with a Certificate of Insurance available for a church that keeps one on file. For a fellowship hall, ceiling height is the deciding factor — send a rough measurement and we'll tell you what fits.

A Word on the River Landings

The Choctawhatchee River Blueway runs along the edge of town, with public boat landings like Curry's Landing — named for the old cable ferry "Uncle Willie" Curry ran across the river around 1920 — and Old Warehouse Landing to the north, which has a small riverside park with a grill and picnic table. These are boat-ramp landings, not party venues, and access and parking are limited. For a river-day gathering, the practical move is a bounce house at the house and the landing for the water.

Finding the Place

Westville addresses use the 32464 ZIP, and the Laura Ingalls Wilder home-site marker is well north of the town proper, up in the Poplar Head community near the Alabama line — so if you're navigating by that, know it's a good sixteen miles out. For your party, just give us the street address at booking and we'll find you.

Why Westville Calls Us

What You Get on Every Westville Booking

Four things that don't change, however small the town.

Clean, Inspected & Insured

Every inflatable is cleaned between rentals and safety-checked before it leaves, then checked again while we anchor it. Certificates of insurance available for churches and venues that ask.

We're on 90 Already

Westville sits on the US-90 corridor between Bonifay and DeFuniak Springs, a road we run every weekend. A town of 261 is on the way, not a detour.

We'll Bring Power If You Need It

Rural river lots mean the outlet is sometimes a long way from where the party should be. Tell us and we'll bring a generator rather than find out on the day.

Common Questions

Westville Bounce House Rental FAQs

Straight answers for a small river town.

Is There a Park in Westville We Could Use?
No town-owned park, playground, or community center — Westville is small enough that there simply isn't one. In practice that's rarely a problem: yards here have room and you don't need a permit to set up on your own property. The river landings around town are boat ramps, not party venues. If you want an indoor backup, a church fellowship hall is the realistic local option.
Do You Deliver to Westville and the Surrounding Area?
Yes. Westville sits on US-90 with Bonifay about 11 miles east and DeFuniak Springs about 18 west. We also serve Ponce de Leon, Caryville, the Poplar Head and Prosperity communities, and across the Alabama line just to the north. Enter your address at booking and any delivery fee for your ZIP shows before you confirm.
How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Bounce House in Westville, FL?
The price is listed right on each product page. Classic bounce houses are our most affordable option; combo bouncers, water slides, and dry slides go up from there by size and features. Setup and takedown are included — no separate labor charge and no "call for pricing."
Can You Do a Church Fall Festival or Homecoming?
Yes, and it's a big part of what we do here. Westville's fall festival already runs inflatables, so we know the drill — we can set up on church grounds, run multiple units for a bigger event, and provide a Certificate of Insurance for the church office. Tell us the ages and headcount and we'll bring a fitting mix.
What Do I Need to Have Ready Before You Arrive?
A flat setup area of grass or concrete matching the unit's listed footprint, the listed overhead clearance (mind low limbs near the river woods), and a standard outlet within 100 feet, or tell us there isn't one and we'll bring a generator. Please have pets out of the yard and the area picked up before we arrive. On concrete, say so when you book so we bring sandbag anchors.
When's the Best Time of Year for an Outdoor Party Here?
October, then spring. October is the driest month of the year here with comfortable temperatures. July is the wettest month, near eight inches, with summer highs around 91–92°F, so summer parties do best in a morning slot with a water slide — the rain arrives as afternoon thunderstorms rather than all-day weather. Winters are mild enough for daytime outdoor parties most of the year.
